High School World Languages
The World Language program at Sacramento Waldorf High School builds on the traditions and approaches to a living study of language and culture established in the Lower School, while accelerating and deepening the content and expectations for language proficiency. Most classes are taught entirely in the target language, and equal importance is placed on examining and appreciating the cultures in the countries where the languages are spoken. High School students choose Spanish, German, or Japanese and study their chosen language through Levels 1 to 4; an Honors option is available in Twelfth Grade. Four years of language are required for graduation. In Ninth Grade, because of the developmental shift in language learning and the increased focus on developing literacy in the target language, all students enter at a beginning level regardless of previous language study.
In Eleventh Grade, we offer a Language Student Exchange Program exclusive to the Ravensburg Waldorf School in Germany for students studying German and to Waldorf schools in various Spanish-speaking countries for students studying Spanish. Our students live and study with an exchange partner for a period of three months and reciprocate by hosting an international student here.
